In the 1980s, Rugby began designing hoists specifically for trailer applications. Rugby's pioneering helped set industry safety standards and guidelines for trailer hoists.

In 1974, Rugby Mfg. expanded our facility to 57,000  ft2, which allowed us to begin producing commercial products, dump truck beds and hoists, a few years later.

Rugby Mfg. was founded in 1969 in Rugby, ND, by Gerhard (Jerry) Socha, a German immigrant turned American success story. Based out of a 4,800  ft2 production facility, our initial product lines were a variety of agricultural products.
